About Our Project

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Several years ago, our detachment began placing miniature Marine Corps flags on the graves of Marines at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. As we walked through the cemetery, we noticed Marines with antiquated ranks who were veterans of long forgotten campaigns. and wondered about their service and sacrifices on behalf of our nation. Taking inspiration from StoriebehindtheStars.com, a website devoted to writing the story of every American killed in World War II, we began writing sketches about the Marines buried in Boulder City.

Finding the Story of a US Marine

In the process of researching these stories, we compiled files of rank structures, military occupational specialities, acronyms, Marine jargon and reference materials from many eras. These files plus our collective experience in several wars and many years of active duty gave us the tools to reconstruct the histories of these Marines.  We commenced compiling "Project Boulder" - the effort to write biographies of every one of the 3,300+ Marines and Navy Corpsmen buried at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Boulder City.  As friends heard about these efforts, we started receiving requests to make this service available to them.  Now we offer it to anyone who wants to know what their Marine did on active duty.
